On April 29, ‘Senco Gold and Diamonds’, the largest organised jewellery retail player in Eastern India announced an exclusive three-day exhibition to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Christened as ‘HeeRay Manik’ (which literally means ‘Diamond Gemstone’), ‘Senco Gold and Diamonds’ is showcasing 28 exclusive pieces of handcrafted jewellery inspired by Ray’s 28 iconic films from April 29, 2022, to May 1, 2022, at Gallery Gold Art Centre, Kolkata. Satyajit Ray, lovingly known as Manik, was born on May 2, 1921 and is considered one of the greatest directors of world cinema.

The exhibition has on display the exclusive ‘Gossip’ collection (the silver and costume jewellery brand from ‘Senco Gold and Diamonds’) inspired by Ray’s 28 iconic films like ‘Pather Panchali’, ‘Aparajito’, ‘Jalsaghar’, ‘Apur Sansar’, ‘Parash Pathar’ among others.

Actor Kushal Chakraborty, who played the famous character ‘Mukul’ in ‘Sonar Kella’ and actor Siddhartha Chatterjee, who played the character of ‘Topshe’ - the quintessential accomplice of Feluda in ‘Sonar Kella’ graced the inaugural ceremony of this exhibition.

Speaking on the occasion, Suvankar Sen, MD and CEO, ‘Senco Gold and Diamonds’ said, “Satyajit Ray, the versatile Academy Award-winning filmmaker, is a cultural icon in India and internationally. On his 100th birth anniversary, it is our humble initiative to pay homage to the legend.”

Taking inspiration from 28 movies of the iconic filmmaker, ‘Senco Gold and Diamonds’, under the guidance of Joita Sen, Director Marketing and Designs, has come up with exquisite jewellery designs - be it the pendant designed in the shape of Kashphool inspired by the famous train sequence of ‘Pather Panchali’; earrings inspired by the vintage chandelier in the Zamindar’s mansion in ‘Jalsaghar’; a pendant inspired from the spirit of femininity - the core theme of ‘Teen Kanya’ or the pendant depicting the iconic Howrah Bridge inspired from ‘Mahanagar’; earrings inspired by ‘Charulata’ in which the unique elegance and beauty of the immortal heroine have been captured; earrings designed to show the divide between home and the world outside and inspired by the colourful door-tops of the era in which ‘Ghare Baire’ is set; bangles portraying the expedition of the protagonist taxi driver from ‘Abhijan’ and earrings inspired by the final film of Ray’s illustrious career ‘Agantuk’ to name a few. Veteran artist Hiran Mitra designed the collection’s ambient art.

Kushal Chakraborty said, “It is an honour and privilege to be a part of this jewellery exhibition paying tribute to Satyajit Ray. I thank ‘Senco Gold and Diamonds’ for taking this initiative to remember the one and only Manik Da.”
