Bulldozers raze illegal colonies in Gr Noida, Gurugram follows suit

GREATER NOIDA/GURUGRAM: The Greater Noida Industrial Developmen­t Authority’s (GNIDA) bulldozers razed down illegal colonies being built on the government’s land in Khodna Kalan area of Greater Noida on Friday. Officials said that the land was marked to develop industries and other infrastruc­ture projects, however, some colonisers have illegally occupied the land which has now been freed.

As per GNIDA officials, nearly 65,000 square meters of land was vacated in an action of three and a half hours with six bulldozers. “The authority’s team reached the spot around 7 am and started demolishin­g the constructi­on along with the police of two police stations and PAC units,” the official said while adding that estimated value of land is around Rs 150 crore.

The actions comes immediatel­y after joining of newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Greater Noida Authority, Surendra Singh, who is also the Commission­er of Meerut Zone. The CEO held meeting with officials and had a detailed discussion on illegal encroachme­nt in the city. He directed to run a vigorous campaign against all the land mafia and submit a report within two days.

“The CEO has warned that no one is allowed to do illegal constructi­on in the notified area of the authority. If any person tries to grab land by doing illegal constructi­on, strict action will be taken against him including lodging an FIR and imposing gangster act,” the officer added.

Meanwhile in Gurugram, the Department of Town and Country Wing (enforcemen­t wing) which is tasked with demolition and sealing activities of illegal structures are removing 15,000 slums that have come up in the prime government property located in Sector 52 along the Golf Course Road.

After giving a two weeks’ notice time, the bulldozers have begun the process of demolishin­g over 5,000 slums, which is expected to get over by early next week.
