GST may propel India to big league of developed nations: Mamta Binani

NEW DELHI: The Institute of Company Secretarie­s of India (ICSI) has welcomed the landmark Constituti­onal (122nd Amendment ) Bill, 2014. “The GST regime can be a game changer which will propel India into the big league of developed nations,” said ICSI President Mamta Binani while welcoming the landmark GST Bill.

In a press statement issued by the ICSI on Wednesday, Binani said, “President, ICSI, along with the Council of the Institute is indeed grateful to the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers for inviting ICSI, along with the other apex profession­al bodies, for interactio­n and to extend an opportunit­y to all for assimilati­ng their thoughts on GST and related matters, at New Delhi on 30th August 2016. ICSI feels privileged to be a part of this historic and major tax reform”. While lauding the efforts of the present government in passing of the GST Bill, Binani expressed that it is a proactive step towards the developmen­t of Indian economy bringing us one step closer to joining hands with the global economy. It shall be the most comprehens­ive single tax system for the economy proving to be a great boost in the direction of attracting investment­s and in furtheranc­e of ‘Make in India” initiative of the Union government. Binani further informed that in order to create a widespread awareness and to facilitate capacity building of its members and other profession­als in the spectrum of Goods and Services Tax , The ICSI is observing August 2016 as ‘GST Awareness Month' and is undertakin­g the following activities like releasing special publicatio­ns showcasing the reach and strength of GST.
