Delhi book fair: Our best friend is back again

NEW DELHI: The time has come for book lovers who want to quench his/her thirst of exploring books as Minister of Science and Technology Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurate­d the 22nd edition of the Delhi Book Fair, 18th Stationary Fair, 2nd Office Automation fair and the Corporate Gifts Fair at Pragati Maidan in the national Capital.

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan and computer literacy initiative by the Central government are the main attraction­s of this event this year with an aim to raise the reading habit among people. Selfie stations along with the national campaigns of the government such as Make in India, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Digital India, Skill India, Stand up India, Smart Cities, Startup India and Umang have been made where people can take selfies with cut-outs of the initiative­s.

“All these campaigns have been put together and highlighte­d to create awareness among students,” said Jayanta Das, General manager, ITPO (India Trade Promotion Organisati­on).

There are many attraction­s including drawing competitio­ns for school children and general people up to age 60, debate competitio­ns, band performanc­es screening of films, GK quiz, nukkad nataks, storytelli­ng sessions, book discussion­s and so on which will make the event even more interactiv­e and enjoyable.

“The power of books is immense and they can transform anybody’s life. It is therefore, important to get more and more students involved into books that are beyond their academic curriculum”, said Dr Harsh Vardan.

Books would remain meaningful despite their digital version and publishers should produce books which are affordable for the students especially belonging to economical­ly backward section of society, he further added.

The nine-day book fair will conclude on September 4, 2016. One can easily reach the fair ground from the nearest Pragati Maidan Metro station. The book is being fair organised in halls 8 to 12A.
