4-year-old boy dies under EDMC truck’s wheels, driver on the run

A 4-year-old boy was allegedly crushed to death by an East Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n truck in North East Delhi’s Khajoori Khas area on Friday.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Rohan. Police, meanwhile, said that they have identified the errant driver as Jagmohan Singh but he is absconding.

Police said that the incident took place on Friday afternoon when Rohan was playing near his house in Khajoori Khas area when a tempo carrying garbage crushed the child under its wheels.

Investigat­ors said that Rohan was playing with a ball in front of his house. Meanwhile, a tempo carrying garbage was heading towards a garbage dump in the locality when the child came under its wheels and got crushed. After hitting the child, the errant driver quickly got out of the vehicle and ran away from the spot.

Police said that locals present at the spot raised an alarm. Few of them tried calling the PCR and the ambulance while others tried to chase the driver, however, he escaped.

In the meantime, a team of local police rushed Rohan, who was lying in a pool of blood on the road, to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

According to the police, they informed the boy’s parents and have sent the body for post-mortem.

Police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC at the Khajoori Khas police station. Teams have been formed to nab the accused driver at the earliest, police added.
