American MNC GE to open its largest Digital Hub globally in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: As a key step forward in GE’S digital transforma­tion, the company on Wednesday announced the opening of its largest Digital Hub globally in the city.

Currently employing 1,500 highly skilled IT and software profession­als, GE Digital’s Hub in India will create an additional 1,000 technology positions, the company said.

The new location will deliver world-class solutions for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) for GE’S customers, making it easier for industrial companies to execute a strategic digital transforma­tion to drive internal productivi­ty, it said in a statement here.

The Digital Hub is a center for co-creating industrial software and analytics solutions with customers and GE experts, aimed at solving complex business problems.

At the centre of the collaborat­ion is Predix, GE’S distribute­d operating system built for the industrial world.

Predix helps customers harness the power of the Industrial Internet and contribute significan­tly to GE’S goal of achieving USD 1 billion in productivi­ty by 2020, it said.

“GE’S global Digital Hubs are at the core of our transforma­tion into a premiere digital industrial company.

We’re excited to bring the best and brightest into GE’S new location in India to help us in our journey,” said Jim Fowler, VP & Chief Informatio­n Officer (CIO) for GE.

“Talent is our utmost priority in advancing outcomes and we are keen to harness additional talent from India, specialise­d in data sciences, analytics and product developmen­t space,” he said.

The new location, inaugurate­d today, is spread over 200,000 sq. ft. with state-of-theart facilities.

“Bengaluru is one of the six key locations around the world which is focused on IT and software developmen­t in line with our business strategy,” Anthony Thomas, Group CIO for GE, said.

He said GE is looking to hire talent that can fit its lean and agile culture, wants to work in a unique global set up which has a start-up like feel, within a large enterprise with access to R&D, engineerin­g and manufactur­ing.

GE Digital’s India Hub is part of the company’s network of global locations in San Ramon, California; detroit, Michigan; New Orleans, Louisiana; Glen Allen, Virginia; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and Budapest, Hungary, it said.

It said GE’S Predix-based software and solutions are set to deliver more than USD 6 billion in incrementa­l revenue this year, and GE expects to become a USD 15 billion software business by 2020.
