Delhi govt school principals to receive training at IIM-A
NEW DELHI: THE Delhi government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad (IIM-A), to provide management lessons to the principals of Delhi government schools under “Principal Leadership Program”.
As per the proposal, head of schools of 1,024 Delhi government schools will receive training by the prestigious IIM-A.
The Directorate of Education, Delhi government, will enroll the principals and heads of schools for the training and send them to IIM-A in batches. As per the agreement, IIM-A will provide intensive training to all principals on school leadership. After a tie-up with the University of Cambridge, UK, and the National Institute of Education, Singapore, this is one more of the Delhi government’s collaborations with premier institutions from around the world, in its bid to upgrade Delhi’s government school ecosystem.
“The government is serious about building skills and capacities of all principals and teachers working in our schools. I am confident this step will go a long way towards improving the way individual school managements function,” said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the charge of Education Department.
“The Heads of Schools have a rich wealth of experience in managing schools. Their capacities to run an academic institute should be supplemented by professional training in leadership, especially in the field of school education,” he added.
He further said that the transformation of Delhi’s government schools has been the top priority of his administration over the past year and a half. “We believe that investing in education is investing in the future of the country. Sev- eral steps are being taken to improve the quality of schools in terms of infrastructure, teaching-learning methodology, narrowing the learning deficits, etc. Principals are the pillars of every school and for a school to do well, it is important to strengthen school leaders,” said Sisodia.
The IIM-A’S Right to Education Resource Center will conduct the sessions with Delhi Government school principals over a period of one and a half years.
