NEW DELHI: The premier media institute, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi, has been listed among the top 48 journalism institutes of the world. These journalism institutes have been included in News Lab, a new tool launched by Google.

“It’s another feather in the cap of IIMC. It’s a matter of prestige for entire IIMC fraternity. We sincerely hope that it will boost the morale of faculty and students in the campus,” said KG Suresh, Director General of IIMC.

“In fact a team of Google had visited the campus and sought the consent of the institute for being included in the prestigious list of journalism schools,” added Suresh.

Besides IIMC, two private media institutes one each from Mumbai and Pune have found a place in the list. Media institutes and departments at universities from USA, Europe, Mexico and Hong Kong have been included in the list.

“This is vindication of the fact that IIMC has successfully maintained the top position in terms of quality,” said Suresh adding such listings encourage fair competition for quality among institutes.

He further informed that IIMC is gradually expanding and improving quality on all the parameters. “At our New KG SURESH Delhi campus, we are going to convert certificate programme in Urdu journalism into a PG Diploma programme. At our Kerala campus, we will start a Malayalam journalism programme from 2017-18,” said Suresh.

The IIMC management has also been given its Delhi branch the responsibility to set up the National Centre of Excellence in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (NCE– AVGC) in Mumbai, the first institute of its kind in India.

“It will be the first government institute in India for animation, visual effects, gaming and comics. The industry will require 24,000 professionals in next 10 years. We will start courses in rented premises from 2017-18,” informed Suresh.

The new institute will be fully functional by 2018 and produce 1,500 professionals every year and also have facility of doctoral research, added Suresh.

It’s a matter of prestige for entire IIMC fraternity. We sincerely hope that it will boost the morale of faculty and students in the campus
