Senior citizen dead, three others injured in separate accidents

NEW DELHI: Three separate road accidents took place in the Capital in which one person died and three were injured. In the first accident, a 65-year-old NRI woman who was on her way to Gurgaon to attend her relative’s wedding was killed when her car rammed into a divider near AIIMS in South Delhi on Wednesday.

Police said the victim, Sushma Dua, was living with her husband and son in Australia. She had come to a relative’s house in Meerut a week ago to attend the wedding.

On Wednesday, Dua was accompanie­d by her sister and brother-in-law, when the accident took place around 3.30 pm. The car allegedly hit a road divider and then rammed into a street pole. Locals rushed forward to help the car occupants and police were informed.

“Dua was sitting on the front seat. She received severe head injuries and died during treatment. Her family in Australia has been informed. The car driver, Anil Kumar (41), has been arrested,” said a senior police officer.

A case under Section 279 (rash driving) has been registered against Kumar at Hauz Khas police station. Dua’s post-mortem was conducted at AIIMS Trauma Centre. Her final rites will be done in Australia, police said.

In the second incident, a man was injured after his car allegedly rammed into a truck in Saket. The incident took place around 11 pm. The car occupant was injured and the front part of his car was damaged. Police officials said that till now no case has been registered.

In the third case, a subinspect­or with the Delhi Police was injured when his bike was hit by a car in South-east Delhi’s Govindpuri on Tuesday.

The victim, Navneet Kumar, who is posted at Govindpuri police station met with the accident while he was on his way for an investigat­ion on his bike. Police said that he was hit by a Swift Dzire car from the front side. Kumar sustained severe injuries including a head injury. He was rushed to a local hospital where his condition is said to be critical, police said.
