Jaypee Infratech gets 15 days to resolve technical drawbacks on Yamuna E-way
GREATER NOIDA: Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has expressed unhappiness over the careless attitude of Jaypee Infratech, the concessionaire of Yamuna Expressway, as the operator did not adhere to the promises made in addressing the issue of improving the technical drawbacks of the Yamuna Expressway.
YEIDA Additional CEO Amarnath Upadhyay along with other officials made a survey of the 165-km long expressway stretch and found noncompliance of any of the drawbacks of the expressway which are majorly responsible for the recurrent road accidents on the stretch. YEIDA has instructed Jaypee group to overcome the limitations instantly and directed it to complete work on an entry/exit ramp at Bajna in Mathura by March-end.
The dominant reason behind the recurring road accidents on Yamuna Expressway is the negligence of Jaypee Group and improper system. The authority has already warned the operator — Jaypee Infratech — several times to overcome the limitations of the Expressway but Jaypee has always failed in the compliance of any of them.
A team of experts along with the Additional CEO of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) conducted an inspection to verify whether the safety suggestions were being adhered to or not. The team gave the operator 15 days’ time to overcome the limitations, else they would demand serious action against them. The pending work includes leveling of bumps, painting of strips and implanting of reflectors for which time allotted is 15 days.
“There is a need to adopt more effective measures to overcome the recurring accidents on the Expressway. We have already directed the Jaypee Group to make such improve- ments and those don’t get implemented on time. We will write a letter asking them to take legal actions against the operator,” said Amarnath Upadhyay, ACEO, YEIDA.
The Authority has also asked Jaypee Infratech to accelerate the construction work of entry/exit ramps at Bajna in Mathura and directed the group to finish the work by Marchend. Once built, the motorists will not have to travel an additional distance to access the Expressway. Moreover, the toll charges will also be reduced to nearly 50 percent as the commuters need not to go to Mathura toll plaza.
