Vibha Tandon is new JNU Chief Proctor
NEW DELHI: The Jawaharlal Nehru administration has appointed Professor Vibha Tandon as the new Chief Proctor of the University. Vibha Tandon is a professor in Special Centre of Molecular Medicine and has 22 years of research experience.
The appointment of Tandon was taken after A P Dimri resigned from his post as the Chief Proctor. On Tuesday evening, Dimri met Vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar and tendered his resignation.
Appointed in March last year, Dimri had not even completed a year as the Chief Proctor.
Dimri had taken the role of Chief Proctor from Krishan Kumar who too had resigned under dramatic circumstances.
Based on sources, the main reason for resignation of Dimri who is a professor at the School of Environment Studies was the unpleasant working relationship between Dimri and Vice-chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar.
As his role of Chief Proctor, A P Dimri was in charge of conducting inquiry in the incidents of the scuffle at the Mahimandavi hostel that led to the subsequent disappearance of Najeeb Ahmed, first year MSC biotech student. The report from the Chief Proctor’s office under Dimri had also charged nine ABVP students of assaulting Najeeb and had recommended immediate transfer of the students from their present hostel.
The report had also mentioned that the disciplinary action against Najeeb Ahmed of being involved in the physical scuffle may be revoked. Dimri was also at the forefront in negotiating with the students on the issue of disappearance of Najeeb Ahmed. Speaking to Millennium Post, Dimri did not disclose the exact reasons for his sudden resignation. “At the present moment, I will not like to delve into details regarding my resignation from the post as Chief Proctor,” said Dimri.
