Cops arrest criminal with ₹50K reward even after being shot at
NEW DELHI: When ASI Sukhbir of the Special Staff of South-east police received information that a dreaded criminal Kasim Mullah would be coming to Okhla Mandi to collect the extortion money, he knew that they are headed for an encounter. As soon as the senior officers were informed, a team was formed to nab the accused. Knowing that Kasim has a history of firing at police teams, the cops wore bulletproof jackets.
The information was correct and at around 1.40 am on Friday morning, the police team intercepted Kasim Mullah at the Modi Mill Flyover. The alert criminal, however, got suspicious and sped up the pace of the bike.
Sukhbir knew that they cannot keep up their pace with his bike and hence rammed their gypsy into the bike. The impact made Kasim lose control and he fell off from his bike.
“As we got out of our gypsy, he was swift enough to open fire at us. The bullet hit me on the chest. Since I was wearing a bulletproof jacket, I just felt the impact of the bullet,” said Assistant Sub-inspector Sukhbir.
By this time, other team members of the police team too got down but Kasim opened fire again. This time, it was Subinspector Yogesh who was hit on his bulletproof jacket. In retaliation, the cops too opened fire at him.
Before Kasim could load his pistol and fire again ASI Sukhbir snatched the pistol from him and overpowered him. The criminal who carries a reward of Rs 50,000 on him was arrested for the brave efforts of the cops.
Kasim has several cases against him including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and cases of arms Act against him. In 1998, he along with his associate, fired at the police team who wanted to apprehend him, in which, one constable was injured.
