Modi urges Goans to vote back BJP for another five years

- DOMINICK RODRIGUES

PANJIM: “The Opposition parties thought demonetization would finish Goa's and India's tourism, but foreign tourists still kept coming – and majority of them were headed towards Goa,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said while urging the Goa electorate to vote back the BJP Government for another five years with a comfortable majority.

“For many years Goa has suffered from a sickness –instability– that had caused the State to have as many as 12 chief ministers in 10 years and making its development to lag behind. We (Central Government) are focusing on development that will benefit even the chaiwallas, biscuitwallas, chana sellers, taxi drivers among others,” he said while pointing out that earlier there were such government that could not even help Goa build much needed bridges, though the present BJP Government had

“We have decided that the bridges we now build – including Goa's Zuari Bridge that will cost Rs 1,000 crores –should be iconic and should be having a zameen-aasman difference,” he said.

“I say proudly that what the earlier Governments could not accomplish in 50 years, our BJP Government did in 25 months with aid from Delhi to Goa. Goa's bad luck is that the baddoers groups were more than the do-gooders groups in the State. Yeh Loktantra ke Jebkatre hai.”

“Some parties are wondering why both Punjab and Goa state elections are being held together and they say that the BJP central government has put5 pressure on the Election Commission in this regard. But India's efficiency is being praised in countries globally including USA, China, Nepal and this is not because of Modi, but due to the public voting BJP at the Centre. So the Goa Government should be formed with majority too to ensure this.”

Talking about surgical strikes against Pakistan, he said Goa had given India such a Defence Minister who had planned these surgical strikes in such manner that even the whole world was still exclaiming in wonder about it. “Our jawans too had showed their mettle in standing against the enemy in this regard,” he added.
