DCW’S 181 saves minor from being forcefully married off

NEW DELHI: Delhi Commission for Women’s 181 Helpline again proved to be effective in its work by rescuing a minor who was being forcefully made to marry a 40-year-old man.

Anonymous sources informed 181 Women Helpline which is supervised by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) about the 13-yearold girl who was forced to get married to a man. Acting on the informatio­n received through the anonymous call, the DCW immediatel­y swung into action. The informatio­n was verified by the Delhi Commission for Women’s sources and the team swiftly acted to rescue the minor.

The marriage was to take place on Wednesday in Najafgarh where the girl who is a Class VIII student was to marry the old man.

181 immediatel­y shared the informatio­n to Mobile Helpline Programme of the Commission, who immediatel­y sent a counsellor with a team of police to the victim’s house. On investigat­ion, it was found that the family of the girl who belonged to Bihar had settled in Delhi an year ago.

Also, in the course of investigat­ion, it was found that the father of the girl was lured by a women to get his daughter forcefully married to the 40-year-old man who is mentally challenged in lieu of money. Finally, with the swift action of the team, the girl was rescued. Police, who accompanie­d the Mobile Helpline counselor registered a case and have started the investigat­ion. DCW’S 181 is for the rescue of women and girls in distress. This case is similar to the one which 181 resolved lately where the neighbours’ phone call to women Helpline (181) and the Delhi Commission for Women’s timely interventi­on saved two minor girls who were allegedly being raped by their father in the national Capital’s Bawana area.
