NEW DELHI: He was an IT engineer and his technical knowledge led him to believe that he could surpass the police cyber team. He thought he could walk away after harassing a girl on social networking sites but the cops proved him wrong.

The victim girl met the accused Aman Singh in a DU festival and both became friends but the girl later realised that Aman was over-possessive and decided to put an end to their friendship. However, after the girl stopped talking to Singh, he resorted to harassing the girl on social networking sites.

Initially, the girl ignored him but soon, her family members started receiving obscene messages on their mobile phones. The girl suspected that it to be the work of Aman Singh but since the mobile number was unknown, she was not exactly confident. The girl got another shock when she saw a duplicate profile on a social networking website in her name. The profile posted photographs, remarks and comments to harass and defame her in the society. The girl went into depression and started secluding herself. She remained confined to her house.

Later, the sister-in-law of the victim girl approached the police and lodged a complaint. The cops soon swung into action and formed several teams to solve the case.

When the cops studied the case, they found that the accused is tech-friendly and he was found sending filthy messages and photographs on mobile through social media and mobile applications. Later, the cops found some clue about Aman Singh and he was found using a new number. The cops got the details of that number and recognised him as the accused. Aman had a B.tech degree in Information Technology. The police arrested him from his house. “The accused also took advantage of mobile applications available on internet to call and send messages through fake names and fake international numbers. The accused engineer attempted to use all his technical skills to misguide the police but could not surpass the skilled team of Cyber Crime Cell,” said DCP West Vijay Kumar.
