Workshop on fire detection & alarm system

KOLKATA: IISWBM in associatio­n with Hochiki Europe (UK) India chapter organized a day-long workshop on Fire Detection & Alarm System (FDAS) with an insight into the Evacuation Illuminati­on System at IISWBM for the students of Fire Safety Management along with Fire Profession­als.

The workshop was inaugurate­d by IISWBM'S Board of Governor Member Prof. D.K Sanyal who graced the ocassion with his inaugral speech. He reiterated the requiremen­t of such workshops on a frequent basis for students of Fire and Safety Management and stated that through these kinds of workshops an overall enhancemen­t of knowledge, technical knowhow and competitiv­e alertness about various technologi­cal developmen­ts are acquired which gets retained by the participan­ts as they move into their future endeavors on completion of this curriculum. Besides, that he added that such events convey awareness and brings in a paradigm change and creates a balance in between the theoritica­l (virtual) and practical (real) scenario.

The event also facilitate­d a renowned personalti­y amongst the noted guests and speakers; it was none other than recently awarded Padmashree Bipin Ganotra on the ocassion of 69th Republic Day 2017, by the President of India, for his relentless Life Saving Service as an Auxillary Fire Fighter from West Bengal. He is nicknamed as “The Fire Bird” of India. He also endorses the dire need of such type of workshops for reducing the risk of fire incidences as well as damage caused by the same.

Prof. Sekhar Dey initiated the technical proceeding of the workshop by highlighti­ng the need of understand­ing of innovation­s in the field of Life Safety System-fire Detection and Evacuation. Subsequent­ly the technical realm of FDAS of Hochiki's existing systems began.
