6 contract killers arrested after brief encounter

NEW DELHI: A gang of contract killers operating from the neighborin­g state of Haryana was arrested after a brief encounter with a team of Delhi Police, West District. The gang comprising of six profession­al killers were involved in three triple murders and in total ten murder cases.

The gang members had come to the capital to commit another crime, but were arrested from Subhash Nagar, West Delhi. However, two members of the gang managed to escape under the cover of gun fire.

The four accused, Sushil alias Sheela (26), Amit alias Lamba (21), Sunil alias Ullu (26), and Ramesh alias Mesha alias Pehelwan (32) were wanted by Haryana Police in connection with the three triple murder cases, police said. Two of the accused, Sushil and Sunil, were carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 each on their arrest.

The police have recovered two pistols containing eight live cartridges, one revolver containing three live, one misfired and two empty cartridges, 32 mobile phones, and two empty cartridges of 9 mm pistol, said the officer. According to police, the incident came to the light when they received inputs that the gang was travelling in a white Fortuner car and were on their way to the capital to commit a murder.

A team under the supervisio­n of ACP (Tilak Nagar) Alap Patel was formed and a trap was laid near Pacific Mall, Subhash Nagar, he said.

A white Fortuner car was spotted coming from Subhash Nagar red light and moving towards Gauri Shanker temple around 11.55 pm, said the officer.

The team deployed at the picket tried to stop the car but on seeing the police team they started firing and their car hit the barricades, he said.

The police team retaliated and four persons were arrested. In all, seven rounds were fired between police and the accused.

“The accused were involved in high profile killings. In the Sonipat murder case, they had killed Sandip Badwasania, a criminal and were paid Rs 3-4 crore for the contract. They later killed his brother Ashish in 2016. They were really dangerous contract killers,” said Joint Commisione­r of Police (South Western range), Depender Pathak.

The police are on the lookout for the two gang members who managed to escape. They have intimated the local police about the arrest and will coordinate with them to apprehend the two accused.
