Mayawati accuses Azam Khan of making Muslims ‘slave’ of Yadav family

- SIDDHESHWAR SHUKLA

A day after Election Commission of India shot off letters to all the registered political parties in the country expressing concerns on galvanizing voters on the lines of caste and religion, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati flayed Azam Khan for allegedly making Muslims ‘slave' of Yadav family.

The remarks came a day before crucial fifth phase polling in the state on Monday which will decide the fate of 52 assembly constituencies spread across Central and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

“Azam Khan smothered his inner self for flattering Mulayam Singh Yadav and now he is doing the same with Akhilesh Yadav. He made Muslims the slave of Samajwadi Party for his vested interests but he would not succeed this time,” said Mayawati on Sunday.

The main districts going to poll in this phase are Amethi, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Bahraich, Shravasti and Terai region adjoining Nepal border. After this phase, only 89 assembly segments will be left for poll in the last two phases. In the sixth phase, 49 seats will go to polls on coming Sunday while voting would be held on 40 seats in last phase on March 8.

“The votes of Muslim community are now themselves deciding their future. They know that only strong leadership of BSP can take on RSS and PM Narenda Modi,” said Mayawati. “The changing mood of Muslim voters has caused frustration for Khan and his team. The SP leader however should be more concerned for his community and his state rather than his selfishness,” added Mayawati exhorting Muslims to vote only for her.

“BSP never caused to bow head to any community in the state. We have always worked for the welfare and betterment of each and every community with full honesty. This is the reason Muslim community leaders' trust on BSP more than any other political party,” added Mayawati.
