NEW DELHI: Following the ‘Tiranga March’ taken out by ABVP-LED DUSU members, the Congress-backed National Students Union of India (NSUI) will organise a symbolic one-day hunger strike, followed by a mashall rally at the Arts Faculty of Delhi University on Tuesday evening.

The Union said in a statement that the move is aimed at addressing the “degradation of discourse in Delhi University. Through this hunger strike, we seek to give a clarion call to the liberal, non-violent and peace loving student and teacher community to come together to restore the environment of peace and safety in the varsity with an open and free space to discuss and debate ideas.”

“While we stand against the ABVP strongly in their attempts to curb students’ freedom of expression and misusing ‘Nationalism’ to further their agenda, we also condemn the violent ways of the Left in handling of the situation. Extreme ideologies are dangerous to our country, whether right or left. We stand with Gandhian and Nehruvian ideology of peace and non-violence,” the NSUI statement added.

Meanwhile, the Left-leaning All India Students Association (AISA) will also organise a protest called ‘DU Against Gundagardi’ on Tuesday. The march will likely be joined by members of Jawaharlal Nehru University Teacher Association including Rajat Datta, Student’s Federation of India (SFI), Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYF), Pragatisheel Chatra Sangathan and Pinjra Tod.
