BJP, RSS woo eastern UP voters

NEW DELHI: Aiming to retain its majority in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ideologica­l parent organisati­on Rashtriya Swayamseva­k Sangh (RSS) have come together to gain confidence of the religious sections of the state.

While, most of the BJP vanguards were seen scattered in Poorvancha­l, Sangh chief Mohanji Bhagwat was said to have held a secret meeting in Chitrakoot on Sunday. Bhagwat is on two-day visit to attend a certain RSS conference.

Sangh Pracharaks from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and other states were also present in the conference. “After reaching Chitrakoot, Bhagwat met all Prant Pracharaks from UP. They were not only asked to express their views but also to submit ground reports on the current Assembly polls,” said sources.

The sources also stated that all these reports were discussed with Pracharaks of these areas. “The RSS chief has expressed his views on the future strategies for upcoming two phases,” the source added.

Meanwhile, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah other ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, another Union Minister Manoj Sinha, Narendra Singh Tomar, senior BJP leaders Kalraj Mishra, Dinesh Sharma, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Bhupendra Yadav are seen conducting poll campaigns in different districts of Poorvancha­l.

“The party workers are doing their best to establish a connection with the locals, especially in parts where BJP could not win during 2014 Lok Sabha elections,” said sources.
