ABVP takes out march again, says ‘Save DU’
NEW DELHI: Slogans like ‘Kashmir Humara Hai’, ‘Save Delhi University’ reverberated through the busy roads of the North Campus, Delhi University as Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists carried out another massive protest march while demanding the denial of Leftist groups in the campus.
Hundreds of ABVP activists showed up at the North Campus from several colleges of Delhi University and assembled to join the ‘Save DU’ march against the All India Student Association (AISA)-LED United University Communities’ march on February 28.
A giant Tricolour flag was waived outside the Arts Faculty at North Campus to adhere to nationalism. During the entire march, one slogan made the loudest sound — Tum jaativad se todoge, hum rashtravad se jodenge (You break it with racialism, we’ll unite with nationalism). “The main purpose to launch ‘Save DU march’ was to restore peace and harmony at North Campus and we won’t welcome anti-national ideologies and anti-national slogans to support their protest,” said an ABVP activist at the North Campus. Moreover, “we will not tolerate any student chanting slogans that ask for the disintegration of the country,” he added. Interestingly, the ABVP has also termed its protest as Save DU which was similar to what the AISA and other Left groups used during their protest campaign. AISA’S rally also had general students participating. Apart from this, a Big Boss 10 participant ‘Om Swami’ had reached to join the protest march but ABVP’S hooting against him, pushed him to leave the spot.
ABVP’S protest comes days after the United University Communities’ march. “We are not forcing our version of nationalism upon any one, they may have their own way to prove their patriotism. They can raise their voices against any institution, organisation and also the government but when it comes to ask for the disintegration of the nation, we will react,” said Saket Bahuguna, national media convener, ABVP.
Huge number of security personnel had been deployed to avoid any possible clash. “Nearly 600 police personnel were stationed in the North Campus,” said a senior police official.
