NOIDA: Doctors have retrieved multiple white cylindrical foreign bodies wrapped in plastic from the abdomen of a 56-year-old patient from Afghanistan during treatment in Metro Hospital, Sector-12, Noida. Around seven such bodies of 5 cm each were retrieved from the abdomen of the patient which are suspected to be packs of drugs.

According to the hospital management: “Abdul Ali, resident of Kandhar, Afghanistan was admitted to the Emergency on February 28 at around 9.05 pm under the care of a gastroenterologist and a gastrointestinal surgeon with a history of loss of consciousness and pain in the abdomen for the last 4-5 days. Immediately after admission, necessary resuscitation were done including intubation and the patient was put on ventilator and shifted to the Medical Intensive Care Unit. On March 1, with view of provisional diagnosis, a CT scan of the abdomen was done which showed multiple foreign bodies in the abdomen. In view to get a more detailed structure, an upper Endoscopy was done by the doctor who revealed multiple white cylindrical foreign bodies wrapped in plastic, some of which probably burst. Doctors have retrieved seven small packets and informed the management immediately about the suspicion of some drug pack. As of now, the patient’s condition is very critical and has been kept on ventilator and the repeat surgeries to remove the remaining bags in the stomach were done as a lifesaving procedure.”

The hospital management then informed the police about the case. Soon after getting the information, police reached the hospital along with the narcotics team. “Around seven suspicious cylindrical shaped units have been retrieved. On suspicion of some drug packs, we called the narcotics team who has collected the samples and further confirmation can be given once the reports are out. There was no mark of any previous surgery on the abdomen and these capsules were swallowed through mouth only,” said a police official.
