Approximately, 2,500 doctors from 12 government hospital have been protesting since Monday after a doctor and a guard at DDU hospital was assaulted and abused by patients’ kin on Sunday.
“This time, resident doctors from individual hospitals are joining us. We want the authorities to take note of all the issues in every hospital. We don’t want any more false promises. The issue is getting bigger day by day,” said Dr Sumit Paria, President of the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), DDU.
He added that strike is more likely to continue on Thursday until government authorities give nod on doctor safety demands.
“Moreover, Delhi Medical Association and Federation of Resident Doctors Association, Delhi has come with our support,” he added.
Doctors from Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Sanjay Gandhi, Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan and Lal Bahadur Shastri hospitals have shut down their services.
Meanwhile, doctors from Lok Nayak and GB Pant hospitals are also planning to stop services by Wednesday evening.
“We are waiting for the government reaction. We are giving them enough time to take a decision. If they fail to do so, we will shut the OPDS from Thursday,” said a senior doctor from Lok Nayak hospital.
According to the President FORDA, Dr Pankaj Solanki, they are keeping an eye over the situation. “If this attitude continues, not only FORDA but other states will also join the protest. It’s government and administration inefficiency and we can’t be blamed for the situation,” said Dr Solanki.
Meanwhile, FORDA has appealed the resident doctors to deny free of cost treatment to patients until the government assures the security.
Also, FORDA set their own rule while asking not to do any charitable activity like that of camps or any other charitable services activity outside his duty condition and hours.
“We need security at our working place and if any further attack on doctor is recorded, the Delhi Medical Association will be compelled to stringent step,” said Dr V K Malhotra, President, DMA.
