NOIDA: Six employees of a CFL and LED bulb manufactur­ing company, Excel Greentech private limited, were charred to death after a fire broke out in the office building in Sector 11, Noida on Wednesday afternoon. Three other employees sustained injuries while trying to escape from the building, said police.

“The fire broke out at around 1 pm. Over a dozen of fire tenders immediatel­y rushed to the spot after we got the informatio­n through a phone call. When we reached the spot the building was fully lapped up in flames. We continuous­ly fought a tuff battle for over four hours and managed to douse the flames. It is quiet difficult to ascertain the actual reason behind the fire breakout” said Kuldeep Kumar, Fire Station Officer (FSO), Noida.

NOIDA: Six employees of a CFL and LED bulb manufactur­ing company, Excel Greentech private limited were charred to death and three others were left injured after a massive fire broke out in the building in Sector 11, Noida on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire team took four hours to douse the flame.

“The fire broke out at around 1 pm. Over a dozen of fire tenders immediatel­y rushed to the spot after we were informed. When we reached the spot, the building was fully lapped up in flames. We continuous­ly fought for over four hours and managed to douse the flames. It is quite difficult to ascertain the actual reason behind the fire breakout,” said Kuldeep Kumar, Fire Station Officer (FSO), Noida.

He also stated that the dead people are yet to be identified as their bodies sustained hundred percent burnt. “We are yet to search the basement as the area is still filled with dense smoke. Those injured were taken to the hospital and were later discharged after getting treatment,” added Kumar.

Questionin­g about the Fire Safety Norms, Kuldeep Kumar told Millennium Post , “After the fire was settled, we went inside the company to check the presence of fire safety equipment. They were present and the company was following the fire safety norms”.

According to General Manager, Excel Greentech private limited, Pragadish Chandra, he received the news from a colleague. “We are depressed regarding the sad demise. The company is well equipped will fire extinguish­ers and all such precaution­s to rescue in the condition of fire. It is unclear that who all lost their lives but I heard from somewhere that one of the directors of the company has died.”

An employee of the building stated that as the fire broke during the lunch time, there were fewer employees present.

“We don't know the truth but other employees told that one of the directors of the company died in the tragic incident. He was resting in his cabin after having lunch and failed to escape. The company is equipped with auto lock doors. As the fire broke out, the system restricted the ones present in the locked cabin to go out. The entire staircase was filled with smoke but we somehow managed to flee from the building. A friend of mine lost his balance while jumping from the first floor of the building and broke his leg,” added the employee.

Noida Police stated that the dead toll might rise as they are yet to search the basement. Also, an inquiry will be conducted by the city magistrate. “Action will be taken against those responsibl­e for negligence in the case,” said Dinesh Yadav, Superinten­dent of Police, Noida.

The five-storey building was a newly constructe­d, only a few months old. It is surrounded by several other multi-storey buildings. However, there no damage has been recorded to the nearby buildings. Sector 11 is well known as a hub of private manufactur­ing companies.
