Okhla MLA blames Cong workers for shots fired outside AAP office in Jamia Nagar

- ZAFAR ABBAS

NEW DELHI: Minutes after a scuffle was resolved between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party supporters, three rounds of bullets were fired outside the AAP party office near Batla House Chowk in Jamia Nagar late Tuesday night.

AAP MLA from Okhla Amanatullah Khan alleged that the shots fired were aimed at him. “They fired at me and I had a narrow escape, as the cops were present at the time of the firing. This is a desperate act by the Congress supporters,” alleged Amanatullah.

The scuffle took place after a group of Congress support- ers, led by the sitting Councillor Shoeb Danish, reached near the AAP office, sat on the shoulders of his supporters and started shouting slogans.

This reportedly irked the AAP supporters. Soon, the two groups of the rival politicains got into a squabble with each other.

The locals initially intervened and separated the two groups and no one was seriously injured. Soon, police reached the spot, located in ward 100-S, to pacify the supporters of the two parties.

Minutes after the incident, three gunshots were fired in the air in quick succession near the office.

All the persons present at the spot escaped unharmed.

However, the cops did not receive any formal complaint from either side till late on Wednesday night.

“We have not yet received any formal complaint from either side in this incident. We received the first call at 12.10 am, regarding a quarrel between workers of AAP and Congress. Later, the MLA gave a call at 12.57 am regarding the firing. We are investigating the matter,” said DCP South East, Romil Baniya.

The Delhi Police are now scanning CCTV footage from the area to figure out the exact sequence of events.
