A day after recording a massive victory in the Municipal elections in Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party has started looking for potential candidates for the three civic bodies – South, North and East Delhi Municipal Corporations.

The party has said that selection of candidates is being done in view of the promises made to voters ahead of the elections.

Once elected, the leader will ensure proper implementation of the same.

It has also come to light that BJP, which on Wednesday achieved a hat trick of victories in the MCD elections, is most likely to entrust the responsibility of the post of Mayor to women leaders in all three Corporations.

According to reports, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Nandani Sharma and Shikha Rai from South Delhi Municipal Corporation are the potential candidates for the post of Mayor.

Among the three contenders, Sehrawat’s name is trailing on top as she has emerged as a strong face of BJP in the local bodies.

Sehrawat not only recorded a highest win by defeating her Aam Aadmi Party competitor from one of the prestigious wards in Dwarka, but also emerged as prominent face against AAP during BJP’S election campaign.

Sehrawat won Dwarka-b ward with with a margin of 9,886 votes by defeating her rival Shushma Bansal.

Nandini Sharma, meanwhile, defeated her AAP rival Monika Talwar by 3,273 votes from Malviya Nagar, while Shikha Roy emerged victorious from Greater Kailash by defeating AAP’S Sneh Parmar with a margin of 8,163 votes.

“She (Sehrawat) was the first who opposed Kejriwal by leading a demonstration against him. She, along with scores of BJP members, had opposed Kejriwal’s departure to Punjab and Goa by protesting at New Delhi Railway station. The issues she raised helped to expose Kejriwal in the public domain while we (BJP) highlighted several issues during our campaign,” said a BJP leader on Thursday.

As far as North MCD is concerned, Preety Aggarwal and Anju Jain are the frontrunners for the Mayor’s post.

Preety Aggarwal defeated the runner-up, AAP’S Abhinav Mishra, from Rohini F seat by a marging of 5,413 votes.

The second contender for the Mayor’s post, Anju Jain, defeated AAP’S Sangeeta Goel from Pitampura by a margin of 4,851 votes.

In East Delhi Municipal Corporation, Neena Bhagat is the top choice of several BJP leaders. Bhagat had defeated Pooja Chhabra, again a candidate of AAP, from Geeta Colony ward by a margin of 2,869 votes.

In the MCD election held on April 23, BJP managed to secure 181 wards out of total 270 wards.

The corporation-wise tally for BJP stands at 70 wards in South Delhi Municipal Corporation, 64 wards in North Delhi Municipal Corporation and 47 wards East Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Meanwhile, their closest competitors AAP managed to win 16, 21 and 11 wards in SDMC, North MCD and EDMC respectively.

The Congress, which finished a distant third, could manage to win just 12 wards in SDMC, 15 wards in North MCD and an embarrassing three wards in EDMC.

It may be recalled that the BJP had managed to win only 138 wards in the 2012 Municipal Corporation elections.
