Cop kills self with service pistol inside CR Park police station
NEW DELHI: An Inspector with the Delhi Police committed suicide by shooting himself with his service pistol in South East Delhi’s CR Park police station on Wednesday.
Inspector Kaushal Ganguly, shot himself in his head inside the District Investigation Unit (DIU), located inside the CR Park police station.
The police are yet to divulge the reason for his suicide. However, police sources have claimed that he was under severe work-related pressure, which may have led to him taking the extreme step.
According to a police spokesperson, Ganguly was found dead around 6 pm inside the toilet located on the first floor of the police station. Ganguly had reportedly asked for permission to carry the pistol for his duty for Thursday’s Shab-e-barat security arrangements.
“The inspector shot himself with his service pistol. He had taken permission to carry the pistol for tomorrow’s security arrangements around 5.50 pm. After the gunshots were heard, we immediately rushed him to Max Hospital in Saket where he was declared brought dead,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East), Romil Baniya.
Inspector Ganguly hailed from Dehradun and was an officer of the 1997 batch.
No suicide note has been recovered from the spot so far and the police have remained tight-lipped about the details of the case.
Ganguly’s family has been contacted, who will reach Max Hospital on Thursday, after which they will be inquired about the circumstances that led to his death.
