LG reviews law and order situation with Delhi Police
NEW DELHI: Lieutenantgovernor Anil Baijal on Friday reviewed the law and order situation in the national Captial, after a presentation by Delhi Police and its vision for the next 10 years.
In the wake of the violence by Dera Sacha Sauda followers, Baijal also directed the police to ensure safety of residents and public property in the city.
“I appeal to all to maintain peace & have directed Commissioner of Police to take effective measures to ensure protection of life & property,” Baijal said in a tweet.
Two train bogies and two DTC buses were set on fire here on Friday, in the backdrop of violence in neighbouring Haryana and Punjab after the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case.
During his meeting, Baijal was briefed about the possible future scenario visualised by Delhi Police, based on discussions with academia like IIT Dehli, IIIT Delhi, Delhi University and young police officers. Cops are also taking into account the vision of police departments in New York, Los Angeles and London’s Metropolitan Police Service.
Baijal was provided with an overview of trends over the last ten years, which included information on population growth, total number of IPC crimes registered, trend in economic offences and online fraud cases, issues of mobility, connectiv- ity, cloud computing, social media, globalisation, beginning of dark-net and crypto currencies, Bpos/outsourcing, dual income nuclear households, evolution of organized crime as a service sector, etc.
Strategic priorities of the Delhi Police were outlined, such as keeping pace with a city that is growing and changing, responding to crime that is increasingly complex, maintaining law and order, countering terrorism, building community trust and participation, equipped and empowered field staff besides leveraging technology.
“Come up with definite actionable time-bound plans focusing on immediate requirements keeping in view your technological and personnel capabilities,” Baijal told cops.
