320 Anganwadi supervisors complete ECE training

NEW DELHI: As a part of the Delhi government’s initiative to reform and revamp its Anganwadi centres, 320 supervisors successfully completed five-day training in Early Childhood Education (ECE) on Friday.

The supervisors were trained by ECE experts from NGOS Pratham and Mobile Creches, and Centre for Early Childhood Development and Research (CECDR) in Jamia Millia Islamia.

The classroom training will now be followed by two weeks of on-the-job practice sessions, which will be followed by two days of evaluation and feedback module.

The supervisors, after completing the module, would be fully equipped to impart the same training to fellow Anganwadi workers. Using this cascade model, all 10,000 Anganwadi workers would be trained by the end of September. The week-long training saw nearly 100 per cent attendance by enthusiastic supervisors.

They said that the training was effective and much needed in building their capacity as supervisors. The training was conducted at eight venues across Delhi. Each supervisor is responsible for the functioning of about 25 Anganwadis centres in the national Capital.

The new curriculum of ECE, which was launched through this training, has been designed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Integrated Child Development Services officials, the two NGOS and CECDR.

Earlier this month, the Delhi government substantially increased the payout of the workers. From an earlier honorarium of Rs 5,000 per month, the government more than doubled it to Rs 10,678.
