- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: As part of the culmination of Swachhta Pakhwada and to observe the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a team of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), resident welfare associations, market trader associations, shopkeepers, NGOS and volunteers contributed to 'shramdaan' at Connaught Place in New Delhi on Monday.

At a subsequent event, acting NDMC Chairperson Puneet Kumar Goel released a booklet titled 'Segregation of Waste at Source' and gave away 'Swachhta Awards' to organisations and participants.

On the basis of their contribution to Swachhta initiatives during the year in New Delhi, Gymkhana Club, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Pandara Road Market Association, RWA Laxmibai Nagar, Nehru Park and four NDMC schools received the awards.

Expressing his gratitude to local residents, RWAS, MTAS, NGOS and officials of the Council – who had extended their positive and sustained contribution during the Swachhta Pakhwada undertaken by the Council, Goel said that our most significant contribution would be the upkeep of not only our households and surroundings, but also to inspire our nearest and dearest for extending their positive contribution towards that direction.

Goel also said that the focus should be primarily on most marginalised households, living in the slum areas of NDMC.
