NEW DELHI: Six out of ten parents are reportedly satisfied with the decision to send their wards to Delhi government-run schools, a survey conducted by trade association ASSOCHAM has found.

It also noted that there was a need to invest in security and infrastructure of these schools.

The survey, conducted by the body's corporate social responsibility wing, interacted with around 5,000 parents whose children are enrolled in Delhi government schools to ascertain their level of satisfaction.

It was observed that the parents are happy with the performance of these schools.

Additionally, the changing image of Delhi government schools has encouraged many parents to enrol their kids in these schools.

The survey noted that most parents appreciated that the government schools gave importance to improving education and the holistic development of their children unlike their private counterparts, most of which were only concerned "about increasing fees and focused on extra-curricular activities".

"Overall, about 30 per cent said that there is significant scope for perking up the security apparatus and infrastructure in Delhi government schools," the survey revealed.

The survey also highlighted that the level of satisfaction was higher among parents of elementary-age children, compared to those whose wards were in middle or high school.

A better learning environment for children, smaller class size, better studentteacher ratio, more responsive teachers and administrators, better discipline and frequent parent-teacher interactions were reasons cited by 70 per cent of parents for sending their wards to government schools.
