NCL supplies 100% coal to power houses as per FSA
NEW DELHI: NCL is entrusted with the responsibility of producing and despatching 91 million tonnes (mt) of coal in the current fiscal. Out of this, more than 92 per cent i.e. 84 mt has to be supplied to the power houses, which are having linkage (fixed agreement) with NCL and most of them are majorly dependent on the company's coal supply for power generation.
The company has also made Fuel Supply Agreements (FSAS) mentioning Annual Contracted Quantity (ACQ) of coal with these power houses so that necessary and incessant supply of coal may be ensured to them. As per the ACQ of the FSA for the current fiscal up to October 6, NCL had to supply approx. 39 mt of coal to the power houses whereas company has supplied approx. 38 mt to them. Thus, the company has supplied almost 100 per cent coal as per FSA to the power houses having linkage with it. National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) are the key coal consumers of NCL and collectively they are shareholders of more than 75 per cent of the total coal supply made to the power houses by NCL. These two power companies operate some of India's mega coal-fired power plants.
One of them is NTPC Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Project (VSTPP). Having commissioned capacity of 4760 MW, it is the largest power station in India and alone accounts for more than 25 per cent of NTPC'S total commissioned coal based power generating capacity. In other words, this plant is entrusted for one fourth of NTPC'S total coal-based power generation. As per the FSA made between NCL and VSTPP for FY 17-18, NCL had to supply approx. 10 mt of coal by October 6 whereas the company has supplied 120 per cent of the FSA to 12 mt. This pithead power plant (having captive mode of transportation) is at present having sufficient coal stocks for 17 days.
Similarly, NTPC Rihand Super Thermal Power Project (RHSTTP) is a mega power plant of NTPC majorly dependent on coal for NCL. As per FSA for 17-18, this pit- head power plant had to get supply of 6.90 mt of coal up to October 6 whereas it got 6.98 mt, approx. 101 per cent of FSA. At present, this pit-head power plant is having sufficient coal stocks for 12 days. NCL also fuels the coal requirement of UPRVUNL Anpara Thermal Power Station (ATPS) having total capacity of 2630 MW, which accounts for 46 per cent of total power generation by UPRVUNL. As per the FSA made between NCL and this power station for FY 17-18, NCL had to supply approx. 5.77 mt of coal by October 6 whereas NCL has supplied 101 per cent of the FSA to 5.84 mt. This pit-head power station is having sufficient coal stocks for 18 days.
NCL is at present having approx. 5.4 mt coal stocks and more than 75 per cent of it can immediately cater to the need of pit-head power plants. NCL has witnessed 17 per cent robust growth in coal production to 42.80 million tonnes during the first half of the current fiscal while it was 36.60 mt during the same period in last fiscal.
