Man nabbed from West Bengal for robbing jewellery shop in Karol Bagh

NEW DELHI: A man who had decamped with jewellery worth Rs 1.25 crore after sedating his fellow workers at a jewellery shop in Karol Bagh has been arrested by Crime Branch of Delhi Police.

On the pretext of his daughter’s birthday, Surajit Manna, a resident of Howrah in West Bengal, had offered sedativela­ced sweets to 13 of his coworkers on the intervenin­g night of November 4 and 5.

After the workers fell unconsciou­s, Manna and his accomplice decamped with 1.65 kg of jewellery.

“After consuming the sweets and liquor, the men fell unconsciou­s. Taking advantage of the situation, Manna and his accomplice Pintu, stole the gold jewellery, moulds with jewellery and other items and fled the workshop,” said Joint CP Crime, Alok Kumar.

The incident was reported to cops by Kaushik Goswami, the owner of the jewellery workshop. Detailed analysis of various inputs bore fruit for cops and the accused was traced to Diamond Harbour suburb of Kolkata.

On November 11, a team soon moved to West Bengal and arrested Manna from the house of his known associate. All of the stolen gold jewellery, along with other articles such as gold nugget and a jewellery mould were recovered from the spot.

The body of a 23-yearold man was recovered from a drain in Baraula area under Sector 49 police station here on Monday morning, said police.

Family members of the victim, identified as Tarun, alleged that he was kidnapped and murdered before being dumping in the drain.

In their police complaint, the family members claimed that Tarun was kidnapped by on Chinu Gurjar on November 9. Gurjar, the complaint said, had earlier threatened to kill Tarun over some rivalry.

“Based on the complaint given by family members of the deceased, we have launched a probe into the matter. On searching the drain, the body was recovered and later identified by the family members,” said Vinay Prakash Singh, station house officer, Sector 49 police station.

“Our probe is still on and we are conducting searches at various suspected locations to nab the accused, who has ben absconding since the incident,” added Singh.

In a similar incident a few days ago, two brothers were chased and stabbed to death by a four men, before being dumping in a drain in the same locality.
