‘Drunk’ woman shoots mother, brother after argument in Defence Colony
NEW DELHI: A 47-year-old State-level woman shooter allegedly shot at her mother and brother in South Delhi’s posh Defence Colony area on Thursday evening.
The accused, identified as Sangeeta Singh, allegedly shot them with her licence gun following a heated argument. She was in an inebriated state at the time of incident, police said. Police are trying to ascertain the reason of the incident. However, they suspected that a dispute over property might be the reason for the extreme behaviour of Sangeeta. She is unmarried.
“The victims are identified as Geeta, her mother and brother – Harsaran. They are undergoing treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre and both of them are out of danger,” said DCP (South) Romil Baaniya. The mother has received bullet injuries on her abdomen and chest while the brother got a bullet in his leg.
Sangeeta is a shooter and had participated in the State level events. Besides, she used to run an adventure tourism centre at Sohna road, Gurugram. But for last one year she stopped going for shooting practice and had stopped meeting people.
Her father reported that she is in depression and taking medicine for the same. On Thursday night she took depression medicine and sleeping pills along with alcohol.
DCP South said, “Her pistol has also been seized. We will be requesting for cancellation of licence.” Meanwhile, Sangeeta has been detained and is undergoing medical examination.
