Cop who told SUV driver to stop mowed down in Ggn
GURUGRAM: A law enforcement official, deputed as special police officer in Gurugram police, was crushed to death by a speeding SUV in the wee hours of Monday.
Police said that the deceased, identified as Mukesh Kumar, was mowed down by the car at Old Delhi road near Palam Vihar around 2.00 am on Monday.
According to officials, Kumar – who had been inducted into Gurugram police just four months ago – was on surveillance duty.
Finding the movement of a Mahindra Xylo to be suspicious, he asked the vehicle to stop so that it can be checked.
However, the driver paid no heed to Kumar's warnings, kept speeding his vehicle and, in the process, rammed it into the 35-year-old official, before fleeing away.
Sources said that the injuries sustained by Kumar were so severe that he died on the spot, before he could be admitted to hospital for treatment.
Gurugram police said they have begun their investigations, and initial leads suggest that the vehicle had a Punjab registration.
A case under sections 353 (preventing a civil servant from performing his duty), 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) under the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
It is yet to be ascertained how many people were present in the vehicle.
Commissioned in 2004, Kumar first joined first Haryana State Industrial Security Force (HSISF) in 2004.
When recruitment of HSISF was disbanded, he joined as SPO in Gurugram Police on July 24, 2017.
This is not the first time that policemen fulfilling their duties have been targeted by commuters.
In June last year, two drunken youths tried to run over the Station Head Officer of Sector-29 police station Vikas Kaushik, when they were asked to stop for checking.
Similarly, a traffic cop was seriously injured near IFFCO Chowk when he was hit by a drunken driver.
A few months later, a group of youngsters at MG Road was dispersed away by armed policemen, led by Kaushik m after they were charging towards policemen to harm them physically.
Many drunken and rash drivers, who have been penalised for violating norms, have also got into scuffle with law enforcement personnel and tried to harm them.
There have also been situations when gunshots have been exchanged between police and criminals on city streets. NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Monday filed a status report on its probe into the death of twin babies at Shalimar Bagh Max hospital before a court here, which has directed that the investigation be conducted expeditiously.
“Status report filed. Taken on record. Investigating Officer (IO) states that they are awaiting report from Delhi Medical Council (DMC) and they have already recorded statements of concerned persons. He further states he has given request letter and reminder to DMC to file their report at the earliest.
“Considering the facts of the case, IO shall investigate the matter from all angles and shall do the same expeditously,” Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Malik said.
During investigation, police claimed to have found that in the death register of the hospital, only the time of birth of the two infants was mentioned but not the time of their death, despite both being handed over in two separate tightly wrapped packages. The police said a copy of the FIR has been sent to the DMC for expert opinion and their report is awaited.
It said the post-mortem has been conducted and the final report regarding cause of death would be ascertained after getting a final opinion from the histopathology department of Safadarjung Hospital here.
The IO told the court that they have already recorded the statement of concerned persons, following which the matter was listed for February 26.
On December 24, Ashish Kumar, the father of the twins, one of whom was wrongly declared dead by the hospital, had sought a court-monitored probe into the matter, alleging that the ongoing “tainted” investigation may harm the prosecution case.
In his plea, Kumar had urged that the SHO concerned be directed to share details of the investigation.
