Authorities agree to demands of striking doctors at LNJP Hospital
NEW DELHI: Protesting doctors at LNJP Hospital called off their strike on Thursday night, two days after they had begun it.
Their decision came after a four-hour long meeting with members of the government.
The doctors resumed all emergency services at 9 pm on Thursday at the hospital.
Earlier in the day, healthcare services were hampered for the third consecutive day at LNJP Hospital and GB Pant Hospital, as resident doctors continued their strike over manhandling of a colleague earlier this week by the attendants of patient.
Patients were left unattended even as nearly 5,000 patients visiting the institute had to face difficulties as many OPDS and emergency services were left without doctors
President of the Resident Doctors’ Association Dr Hari said, “Around 350 resident doctors and students participated in the strike on the second day and we are protesting the indifferent attitude of the management and the health minister towards the medical frater- nity and security lapses at Lok Nayak Hospital.
“Security of doctors has been left at the mercy of private security guards and any outsider can take liberty and misbehave with the staff.”
He added that the administration had only been giving assurances and no concrete action was being taken over the matter.
He added that 48 marshals will be deployed immediately after the LG approval.
However, this will be against the vacant position of chowkidars and hawldars in LNJP Hospital.
Moreover, another 50 civil defense personnel will be deployed within seven working days starting form March 5. “All the non-functional 208 existing CCTV cameras will be made functional along with 102 new cameras,” he added. Patients visiting the emergency OPD were the worsthit. Akhtar Begum,48, who had traveled from Seelampuri district to get her chemotherapy shots, said, “I was to receive chemo treatment on Wednesday but doctors in the cancer ward were not available due to the strike.
