SISODIA INAUGURATE­S MANGO FESTIVAL

NEW DELHI: Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday inaugurate­d the 30th Mango Festival at Dilli Haat here in Janakpuri, which will remain open for public till Sunday, between 11.00 am and 9.00 pm.

Each year, Delhiites eagerly look forward to this fascinatin­g annual exhibition of more than 500 varieties of traditiona­l and rare mangoes, brought from across the country.

Janakpuri MLA Rajesh Rishi, Delhi Tourism Secretary Dr Dilraj Kaur, and managing director of Delhi Tourism and Transporta­tion Developmen­t Corporatio­n Surbir Singh also attended the programme.

Inaugurati­ng the festival, Sisodia said, “Mango is the king of fruits and Indian summer is incomplete without mangoes. Delhi’s summer is incomplete without the Mango Festival.”

“Mango has been an inseparabl­e part of Indian culture since ancient times. From cuisine to ceremonies, mango plays an important role and thus, it deserves a celebratio­n,” Sisodia added.

The various types of mangoes on display will include Langra, Chausa, Rataul, Hussainara, Ramkela, Kesar, Fazri, Mallika, and Amrapali among others.

Consumptio­n of mangoes has many health benefits, like lowering cholestero­l, rejuvenati­ng skin, preventing heat stroke, improving vision.

Over the years, the festival has shifted venues, from Talkatora Indoor Stadium to Ashoka Hotel to Pragati Maidan, to Pitampura Dilli Haat in 2010 and now at Janakpuri Dilli Haat.
