Patna municipal body to provide khadi uniforms to sanitation workers

Sanitation workers of the Patna Muncipal Corporation (PMC) will now don customised uniforms from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

The municipal corporation would sign a three-year agreement with the KVIC for supply of khadi uniforms to its workers, a release from the KVIC said.

The PMC commissioner had requested the KVIC chairman to provide khadi uniform sets for its sanitation workers after which some of his officials were sent to Patna with the samples which got approved.

“The PMC has not only approved the samples, it also raised a demand letter on June 30 for supply of khadi uniform sets for its 4,000 men and women safai karmacharis by August 15. Besides, the PMC has also signed a threeyear agreement with the KVIC for a regular supply of materials, including woolen khadi clothes during the winter season,” a KVIC release said.

KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena said, “It is the fittest tribute to the Father of the Nation ahead of his 150th birthday celebrations from Bihar a land of Champaran from where he kicked off his journey as Mahatma to have a unique conversion with a local self body.

“It is also very important that Khadi has started getting recognition from all corners of the nation. Not only that, the ‘safai karmacharis' are the most important part of local self bodies,” Saxena said.

The agreement between the two for supply of khadi products is likely to be signed next week in presence of Union Minister Giriraj Singh and other dignitaries, he said.
