NOIDA: An over-speeding auto-rickshaw driving in the wrong side jumped the red light and hit a 31-year-old woman, injuring her severely with multiple fractures in her collarbone, legs and hands.

According to police, the incident occurred outside Gate no-1 of Amrapali Silicon City residential society in Sector 76 of Noida. The auto-rickshaw driver identified as Devender Singh (22) hit the woman when she was returning home after dropping her son at Sector-76 traffic light for the school bus. The woman has been identified as Babli Singh (31), who lives with her family in Amrapali Silicon City.

As per the victim’s family, they received a call at around 10 am from one of the residents of the society. The woman was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where the doctor stated her condition to be critical.

“The woman has suffered severe injuries in her forehead, left side of the face, left shoulder and left knee joint. She also received fracture in the left collarbone. Her face is badly injured due to the glass of the windshield getting stuck in her face. So, we call a face surgeon for the face treatment,” said a senior doctor of NEO hospital in Noida’s Sector-50.

An eyewitness said that the auto was overloaded with three passengers sitting on the front seat along with the driver, which made him lose control over the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the police have registered an FIR against the auto driver and have also seized the auto-rickshaw. GURUGRAM: Women conductors will be seen in Gurugram buses from next month. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GDMA) has taken the decision to empower women. It is an extension of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, V Uma Shankar, the CEO of the GDMA, said.

The hiring of women conductors is just like a pilot project and once this becomes successful, their numbers will be increased, Shankar said. The women conductors will be known as the customer service agent. They will work only in the daytime, he said.

GDMA is going to launch 100 busses in Gurgaon on August 1, which will run on 11 different routes in the city. Therefore, the authority has started the process of recruiting 570 drivers and conductors.

We have floated the tender to run the buses and two companies have shown interest to work. These two companies will hire 285 drivers and conductors each, including 50 women conductors, Shankar said. The official added that the introduction of 100 new buses will improve public transportation infrastructure in the city. NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea by an NGO seeking transfer of the investigation from the police to CBI in a case of alleged rape against self-styled preacher Daati Maharaj.

Justice Mukta Gupta said the NGO was not the victim in the case and had no locus standi in the criminal matter.

The court said the NGO had initially filed the plea as a Public Interest Litigation which was not entertained by the bench headed by the Acting Chief Justice and treated as a criminal writ petition.

“What is the locus of an NGO in a criminal trial? A victim or accused is most welcome to the court and action will be taken on their petition. What is your locus,” Justice Gupta asked.

The court suggested the complainant to withdraw it with a liberty to file it along with the victim’s affidavit.

Advocate Joginder Tuli, appearing for NGO Delhi Citizen Forum for Civil Rights, then withdrew the petition.

A complaint was lodged against Daati Madan Lal alias Daati Maharaj on June 7 and an FIR was registered by Delhi Police on June 11. The police had on June 22 questioned the accused, who has been charged with raping a disciple at his ashrams in Delhi and Rajasthan.

The court was hearing a petition filed by the NGO alleging that the probe out by Delhi Police seemed to be “biased and unfair”. As no arrest has been made so far, which could lead to influencing of witnesses and destruction of evidence.

While the accused has claimed he was being framed in the case, the woman had filed the complaint against the preacher, his three brothers and a woman at the Fatehpur Beri police station in south Delhi. The case was later transferred to the crime branch.

A trial court here had earlier taken strong exception to the manner in which the probe was being conducted in the rape case, saying the investigating officer had not been able to explain the efforts made to ensure that the accused does not abscond during the investigation.
