Gangsters back to old ways of extorting bizmen in Ggn

- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURUGRAM: All doubts over the waning away of dreaded gangs in Gurugram disappeared this week after a businessman got an call from unidentified men demanding extortion money.

The incident took place on Monday, following which the case was registered in the Cyber Cell and subsequently transferred to the Crime Branch.

In a more worrying trend, the latest victim resides in Sushant Lok, which is among the poshest localities in the city center.

On being investigated by the Crime branch, it has been revealed that three calls were made to the victim, all of which were traced from Thailand. It is believed that the call was from the Kaushal Gang.

A case under sections 387 (extortion) and 507 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered by Gurugram Police.

The same gang, in April, was involved in a broad daylight shootout of a businessman at Sector-31, after he had refused to pay the ransom of Rs. 60 lakh.

What proves to be a major challenge for law enforcement officials is that even though leaders of the dreaded gangs of Gurugram are lodged in jail, their members are carrying out the nefarious activities.

Traders and businessmen being targeted by goons has been a major law and order challenge in the outskirts of Gurugram.

Such cases are also being reported on a large scale from City Centre.
