9 KANWARIAS NABBED FOR VANDALISM
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Tuesday said they have nabbed nine more kanwarias, including four juveniles, accused of vandalising a car in west Delhi's Moti Nagar. With this, the total number of accused apprehended in the vandalism case is up to 11, including two arrested earlier.
On August 7, a group of violent kanwarias thrashed a car with bats, after an altercation with its occupants. Cops said that the car had brushed past one of the accused, identified as 19-year-old Aman, who then instigated his fellow kanwarias on the pretext that his holy water had spilled, causing them to beleaguer the car.
Some spectators recorded the entire incident, which later went viral on social media.
Rahul alias Billa was the first to be arrested by a team of West Delhi police, whose revealed the details of the other accused.
The other arrested kan- warias – all residents of Delhi – include Aman Kumar from Nanak Payau in Najafgarh, Jogesh from Dwarka Sector-3, Sachin from Nikhil Vihar, Jitender from East Krishna Vihar in Najafgarh and Vishal from Nikhil Vihar.
Four juveniles have also been apprehended by cops.
“Our team worked tirelessly and picked up the accused swiftly. They would be rewarded suitably,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar said on Tuesday.
To nab the accused, all kanwaria camps between Moti Nagar to Najafgarh area were inspected and the organisers as well as workers of these camps were contacted by cops. Their entry registers were obtained and around thousand pilgrims who had stayed at these camps before and after the incident occurred were physically verified.
The police teams also enquired priests in temples situated around Najafgarh Road, where the pilgrims would have ended their yatra to offered water. All SHOS and beat staff under the jurisdiction from Moti Nagar to Najafgarh were also briefed and sensitised to help in identify the accused.
