Police claimed that the road user behaviour plays an important role in maintaining safety on the roads. Delhi Traffic Police claimed that accidents have decreased in the city due to their constant efforts.

Talking to the Millennium Post, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Alok Kumar explained several aspects of road accidents. He stated that one of the major reasons behind the accidents is wrong crossing by pedestrians. “The pedestrians sometimes cross the road during heavy traffic which is dangerous,” said Alok Kumar.

He further added that in some stretches there are problems of proper lighting. Dangerous and drunken driving is another important reasons for the accidents. Following traffic rules can curb road accidents.

The DTP analyses the trend of accidents and writes to different agencies about the problems. “The traffic police regularly discusses road safety measures with the pedestrians and with the motorists,” added the Joint CP.

The traffic police also take strict action against the persons involved in errant driving. The traffic police is also active on Twitter and Whatsapp where they provide commuters with details regarding traffic snarls on a regular basis.
