SHARIFS TO SPEND EID IN JAIL

-

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter and son-in

law will celebrate Eidul Azha in the high-security Adiala Jail after a high court deferred decision on petitions seeking their release.

Three corruption cases were filed against Sharif and family

last year following a decision by Supreme Court on July 28 of the same year.

The 68-year-old PML-N

leader on Monday appeared before the Islamabad-based High Court for hearing in the remaining Al-azizia Steel Mills and the Hill Metal Establishment cases.

Sharif, along with his daughter Maryam, 44 and his son-in-law Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar, 54, are already serving jail terms of 10-years, seven years and one year respectively in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, after the accountability court convicted them on July 6 over the family's ownership of four luxury flats in London through illegal means.

The three appealed in the Islamabad court against the conviction on July 16. They also petitioned for suspension of the sentence and immediate release.

A two-member bench after hearing the arguments in the petitions seeking their release and suspension of the sentence on Monday deferred the case and announced to take it up with the hearing of appeals against conviction.
