- SAYANTAN GHOSH

NEW DELHI: Delhi Government will call a summit of NRI teachers working in universities and schools abroad as this will help in making Delhi colleges, universities and schools worldclass. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced this while inaugurating the newly constructed IIIT-D Building on Tuesday.

“We envision the institutes and colleges in Delhi to become globally renowned knowledge centres for the students worldwide. We are looking forward to such developments and innovations in all Delhi institutes which would make them counted under the list of top ten institutes in the world”, said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The institute has a fully-developed infrastructure, spread over 25 acres in Phase III of Okhla Industrial Estate. The campus which includes lecture halls, classrooms, research labs, instruction labs, boys' hostel, girls' hostel, dining and student center, tennis court, basketball court, and volleyball, etc, accounts for the total built-up area of 33,000 sqm. “I have been to several campuses around the world, but your campus is one of the most beautiful campuses I've ever seen,” Kejriwal said. The CM stressed on the shortage in higher education capacity and said the irony is that many students with 97-98 percent also don't get good colleges. The CM firmly stressed that no nation can be developed unless the people of the nation are well educated, it is a necessary but not sufficient condition.

On the completion of IIIT- D Phase II, Manish Sisodia, Deputy CM said, “In 2015, I laid the foundation of this newly built Phase II building here and wished to see the students from all walks of life getting world-class education. Today, the dream has come true after 2.5 years since the first thought. It's the first time that we witnessed that a minister who once laid the foundation stone of a project is also present at its building inauguration ceremony. It's definitely a moment of pride for Delhi Govt as well as the IIIT-D.”

While working within its purview, the current government has doubled the budget on education and has been expanding the campuses institutions like Delhi Technical University, Ambedkar University, IIIT-DELHI as much as possible. Talking to the students, he appealed that the nation of the future expects them to become job creators & not job seekers.
