Govt extends July GSTR-3B filing DEADLINE to AUG 24

NEW DELHI: The government has extended the last date for filing of GST summary sales returns for the month of July to August 24.

"Last date of filing GSTR-3B for the month of July, 2018 has been extended to August 24, 2018," an official statement said.

The earlier due date was August 20.

"There were instances of technical glitches faced on August 20 in filing the return, which was the last date for submission of GSTR 3B. It's good that more time has been given for filing," said Pratik Jain, Partner and Leader, Indirect Tax, PWC.

GST collection­s rose to Rs 96,483 crore in July from Rs 95,610 crore mopped up in the previous month.

Meanwhile, The Income Tax Department issued as many as 1.96 crore new PAN cards during the quarter ending March 2018, taking the total number to over 37.9 crore, as per the official data released on Tuesday.

Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a 10-digit alphanumer­ic identifier, issued by the department to each assessee, who may be individual, firm, and company. It is required for paying tax and filing return.

Meanwhile, the Income Tax Dept announced that it has issued 1.96 crore PAN cards in Jan-march quarter

PAN allotment is a reflection of efforts made by the government to widen tax base.

The income tax data revealed that there were about 35.94 crore PAN alloted by end December 2017. The numbrer rose to 37.9 crore at March-end 2018.

The maximum number of PAN have been to issued individual­s (97.46 per cent), fol

lowed by firms (1.08 per cent) and Hindu Undivided Family (0.51 per cent).

The other categories who have been allotted PAN include, associate of persons; body of individual­s; company; government; artificial juridical person;

local authority and trust.
