- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old taxi driver was shot dead by unidentified men in south Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur on Sunday. Police claimed that at the time of incident one of the deceased friends was at the spot who claimed that the accused persons' car accidentally brushed past driver car. This led to the argument during which the culprit pulled the trigger.

The deceased, identified as Umesh, lived with his family in Sangam Vihar area of South Delhi. He worked as a driver for a private cab company. Police claimed that the incident came to light when they received a PCR call late night on Saturday after which they rushed to the spot which was in Gurudwara road in Kotla Mubarakpur, a few meters away from the police station. “The man was taken to the hospital where he died,” police claimed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar stated that they are investigating the reason behind the murder. “Three to four persons been suspected and a probe is on from all angles,” said the DCP. The investigating agency stated that one of

the deceased friends was at the spot who claimed that at the time of incident mirror of the accused car got touched with the deceased vehicle which led to the argument.

“He (deceased's friend) told us that the fight started for not giving the side and later mirror got touched which led to the heated argument, then scuffle ensued and then one of the accused took out the pistol and shot Umesh. After committing the crime, they fled the spot,” police said. Police are also investigating the testimony of the deceased's friend.

The deceased's wife Geeta claimed that the police did not inform her about the incident.

“It was getting late in the night and my husband had not returned so I made a phone call to him which was picked by the policeman who told me to visit the hospital. I with the help of my neighbour visited there and came to know about the incident,” Geeta said.

The family belongs to Rajasthan and is living in Delhi for several years. The deceased has three children aged 10, 8 and 2. “Around 8:30 pm, my husband told me that he was in Kotla Mubarakpur at CNG filling station; around 11:20 pm once again I called him then Umesh told me that he was still there and will come back soon,” added the wife.
