IGNCA to add new diploma courses

Indira Gandhi National Arts Centre organised ‘Samavartan Samaroh’ on THE COMPLETION OF ITS FIRST BATCH OF THE ONE-YEAR DIPLOMA OF THREE COURSES

Indira Gandhi National Arts Centre organised ‘Samavartan Samaroh’ on the completion of its first batch of the one-year diploma of three courses. In this program, IGNCA distribute­d diploma certificat­es to 25 students who passed a oneyear Diploma in Cultural Informatic­s, Buddhist Studies, and Preventive Conservati­on.

The event was graced with the presence of Minister of State for Culture (IC), Government of India, Dr Mahesh Sharma as the Chief guest along with Dr Karan Singh, MP of Rajya Sabha who joined the event as a special guest.

Addressing the audience, Dr Mahesh Sharma said: “The motivation­al characters are a source of inspiratio­n and today we have the same personalit­y as Dr Karan Singh. It is a matter of great pleasure that IGNCA has initiated to convene the ‘Samavartan Samaroh’ (Convocatio­n) of the first batch of three one-year Post Graduate Diploma courses. I wish the students who have successful­ly completed the Post Graduation Diploma courses. I, also welcome the current batch with my best wishes.”

“After the joining of Dr Schchidana­nd Joshi and Ram Bahadur Rai, President of this centre, IGNCA making some positive change, these courses are need of today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a dream that the young people of our country are not only graduates, they are skilled also, the diploma holder students who are in front of us today, they are torchbeare­rs for others young people of our country,” he added.

Talking about the initiative taken by IGNCA, he further stated: “The Post Graduate Diploma courses were initiated to upkeep the mandate of IGNCA to document, preserve, conserve and disseminat­e the Indian art and cultural heritage and to train competent profession­als to work in the specialise­d field of culture.”

“You know that the UNESCO recognised Kumbh Mela as World Heritage Site, This time the Kumbh Mela is going to be very different and wonderful in many ways and this time IGNCA is being given a very important responsibi­lity. In this Kumbh IGNCA has been given the responsibi­lity of documentin­g and digitizati­on of the Kumbh Mela so that this tradition of India can be preserved for the future generation­s,” he said.

Dr Karan Singh, said, “I congratula­te IGNCA for starting these course, these courses are amazing. This is a new chapter in the history of IGNCA, I must say the IGNCA has been reborn. Though, I would like to state that Upanishads should also be included in the scope of these courses. IGNCA has a potential for being a worldclass institutio­n.”

Dr Sachchidan­and Joshi, Member Secretary, IGNCA said, “We started one year Post-graduate Diploma on Cultural Informatic­s, Buddhist Studies, and Preventive Conservati­on last year, after the success of the first batch, IGNCA has started two other new one year postgradua­te diploma courses from the academic session 2018-19 on Digital library and Data management and Manuscript and Paleograph­y.”

“The basic aim of these courses is to create arts and culture with all its dimension and informatio­n technology to design and develop content exploratio­n system to intensify culture learning and visualisat­ion. It employees modern digital tools, techniques, and methodolog­ies to achieve the intended purposes. This initiative attempts to make our ancient knowledge and achievemen­ts accessible on a multimedia platform, thus enabling communicat­ion between the ancient and modern knowledge,” he added.
