NEW DELHI: Four persons died and one got injured as they went for the maintenance of a sewage treatment plant in West Delhi's Moti Nagar area.

Police claimed that they have registered a case in this regard. An official from Delhi Fire Services said that they received a PCR call around 4.20 pm from P Tower of Capital Green DLF in Motinagar. Around four fire tenders were rushed to the spot as the call was of serious nature.

“At the spot, we came to know that two men were already taken out by the public. We rescued the rest of four and sent them to a nearest hospital in West Delhi area,” said the official adding that toxic gases could be blamed for the accident on first instance.

Revealing the details about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bharadwaj stated that five labours went in for maintenance at around 3 PM and got uncouncious because of the toxic gases. The labourers were rushed to the hospital as soon as possible.

“Four were brought dead in the hospital while fifth one was referred to RML hospital. A case has been registered under relevant sections of IPCS,” said the DCP. The deceased were identified as Sarfaraz, Pankaj, Raja and Umesh whereas, the injured victim was identified as Vishal who is under supervision of the doctors. The sewage was in the premises of the residential building. The victims were taken out with the help of the rope. An alleged video of the rescue work, accessed by the Millennium Post, shows that through a hole one of the labourers was being taken out. His body and cloth were filled with dirt. The firemen were extra cautious while taking out the victim. The labourer was unconscious and was not wearing any protective gears.

When the police officer was asked about the culprit in the case, she stated that there are multiple firms who could be blamed. But they are taking details in the case. After that only they will be able to carry forward their investigation.

Police also claimed that they are taking details of the sequence of the event like who went first and whether someone was waiting outside. Did he go inside after not getting any response from the sewer plant and got unconscious.

This is not the first case, in August two labourers died after they fell inside a tank in North West Delhi. The two men went into the empty tank for cleaning which was around 20 feet deep.
