Sewer deaths: Notices to private companies

NEW DELHI: Police on Tuesday served notices to the private companies in the case were five persons died after they entered sewer treatment plant inside a building in West Delhi's Moti Nagar area. Police claimed that no new arrest has been made in the case in this regard. Deputy Commission­er of Police (West) Monika Bharadwaj stated that the notice was served to the companies including DLF and JLL to submit the contract documents regarding the incident. "The investigat­ion is on from all angles," said the DCP. The police want to scan the contract details of the deceased as well as the agencies who were involved in the case.

Police claimed that questionin­g in this regard going on to get clues in the incident. On Monday they have arrested one person named Ajay, an engineer from the company JLL. Sources claimed that the investigat­ion so far revealed that the five deceased had denied entering the sewage plant but the supervisor started shouting at them and also threatened to oust them from their jobs. Sources claimed that initial investigat­ion revealed that the maintenanc­e of the building had given to a private company who further divided the work into five to six agencies. After the completion of the investigat­ion, they will arrest the culprits.

In a press statement, JLL claimed that they are working closely with the companies that employed the deceased men to understand the events that led up to this incident and provide all assistance through them to families affected by this tragic incident.
