Man arrested for raping minor step daughter

GHAZIABAD: A 35-year-old man, who allegedly raped his 14-year-old step daughter in Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad, has been arrested by police on Tuesday.

The accused has been sent to the jail and a case under relevant IPC sections of rape, molestation and protection of child against sexual offences Act (POCSO) was registered against him on Monday, said police officials.

According to police, the accused identified as Israr worked as a labourer and was arrested on Tuesday from his house in Meerut.

Police said the incident came to light on Monday when the victim’s mother, a domestic help, came home from work and the girl narrated her ordeal. The accused, finding the minor alone at home, allegedly beat her up and raped her. He further threatened her with dire consequences if she told about the incident to anyone.

We had received a complaint from the victim’s elder sister stating that her step father has raped one of her sisters when her mother was not present at home on Monday morning. She also stated that the culprit had sexually harassed their eldest sister on several occasions, the police said.

“Following the complaint, a case was registered and teams were formed to nab the accused. After raiding suspected locations, the accused was arrested from his house in Meerut district on Tuesday,” said Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Circle Officer, Sahibabad.

The officer said that the rape took place in the shanty where the girl lives with her sisters, mother and stepfather.

The girl, who is the youngest of three siblings, all of whom are girls, studies at a private school.

Following the incident the victim approached one of her sisters who is married and lives in the same locality. Her elder sister then approached police and registered an FIR at Sahibabad police station against her step father.

Police said that the accused has been produced before the court and has been sent to the jail on Tuesday.
